At age 8 he had decided that his destiny was to become ordained as a monk and by age 9 his dream was fulfilled that was at Vivekaramaya at Delduwa, Ambalangoda and he had the fortune to be the scholar of many renowned monks in the country, their influence and his powers of comprehension soon enabled him to seek out a way to bring relief to the suffering masses and he has come a long way since.

Ven.Dr.Gnanasumana’s main objective is engaging in Vishvashakthi healing to banish sickness and suffering and thereby create a society which will appreciate a meaningful existence.

Fluent in Sinhala Pali and Sanskrit, he earned the ‘Rajakeeya Pandit’ accolade for being the first 19 year old scholar for accomplishing this achievement. He was an external student at the prestigious University of Peradeniya and went on to bag a distinction for his bachelors’ degree. Later he joined the Buddhist and Pali University and presented a volume on historical evidence on meditation and earned a professorship.

He has many volumes on Buddhism to his credit; his first book which was launched was called 'Principles of early Buddhism' while the second was called 'Facts on Buddhism during the Middle Ages' 'The Buddhist Way' 'New Paths to Buddhist Life' 'The Buddha Lives' and many more. He also contributed to Lakbima a national news paper.
